Postcard from Marseille

Marseille surprised me. All I ever heard was: don’t go there, it’s dangerous. But when I started to look into it, I read that the area around the old port had been cleaned up, there were interesting museums to visit and it wasn’t any more dangerous than other large cities. I was intrigued and looking forward to spending the day there. I have to say, it didn’t disappoint. Enjoy the delicious restaurants, wander around the downtown area, visit MUCEM (Musée des civilisations de l’Europe et de la Méditerranée), walk up to Basilique Notre-Dame de la Garde for a fantastic view of the city, nose around the old fishermen’s ports and, if so inclined, dance at a milonga overlooking the old port. If we had had more time, I would have liked to have gone out to the islands which are only a short boat ride away.
